It is a very contagious viral infection that is usually more common in children. They are seen in the form of bumps with a navel in the middle in many skin colors, and they usually do not give any symptoms other than appearance.
It is frequently seen in children aged 1-4 years, in sexually active adults, athletes who do sports such as wrestling with direct contact, and people with suppressed immunity.
The virus is transmitted from person to person through direct contact and contact with infected objects. While transmission from areas such as playgrounds and swimming pools is common in children, transmission by sexual contact is more common in adults.
The virus may not show symptoms until 2 weeks to 6 months after being infected.
It can occur in any area of the skin or mucous membranes. Lesions are seen mainly on the face in children younger than two years of age, on the trunk in older children, and on the genitals in adults due to sexual transmission.
Diagnosis is made by dermatological examination.
Although the lesions can be left untreated because they are often self-limiting, treatment is often recommended because the lesions can spread and are highly contagious.
In the treatment, cold nitrogen gas application (cryotherapy), extraction of the essence in the center of the lesions, application of solutions containing potassium hydroxide or various cream treatments can be applied.
